Celebrating the Year of the Blogger
I am so excited to have been chosen for this year’s piCture pOlish blog fest!! Just a few days shy of my blog’s 1 year birthday and this is the most awesomest post so far! It’s been pretty exciting to watch the new posts pop up all day…with 130+ bloggers participating, I’m in great company! (and feeling slightly out of my league with some of the nail art!) So glad I can finally let the cat out of the bag!
So, this year’s blog fest is all about the blogger. We have been challenged to come up with nail art and a tutorial featuring the three shades we were sent. I went with something FESTive. I think this looks like party bunting! So fun!
I received Hot Lips (an awesomely bright pink), Whimsy (a gorgeous sky blue with green/gold flecks) and White Wedding (a white with multicolored flecks). (And do you have that song in your head now? I do…)
Let’s get started with the tutorial!
Just look at those gorgeous colors! All of them started with a base of Milani White. Whimsy took three costs and then Hot Lips and White Wedding are two.
I’m using my brown crafting non-stick mat here. It’s great for working with polish because it’s…well…non-stick. I placed two pieces of tape on the non-stick mat and painted Whimsy on one and Hot Lips on the other. You can see the sparkle of Whimsy here. It is sooooo pretty! I painted on three coats of polish here with plenty of drying time in between each coat.
After the polish was fully dry, I pulled the tape off the mat and placed it on a piece of sticker backing. You could use the back of a sheet of sticker labels or something else that the tape won’t stick to. It’s just easier to deal with the craft scissors when you’re not trying to also fight with the sticky side of the tape. And I find that it cuts more cleanly with the paper backing.
We’re making polish stickers here. On the Whimsy, I just cut some skinny lines.
And on Hot Lips, I used my chevron craft scissors to make this “flag bunting” shape.
I peeled the polish stickers off the backing and placed them right on the nail. Then I trimmed off the excess.
A coat of Seche Vite on top to seal in the tape and I’ve got a cute little festival on my nails!
We’re all posting today at 7pm in our own time zone. So fun! The official hashtag for today’s Blog Fest is #ppblogfest2013.
Here’s another exciting element to this year’s Blog Fest. There is a contest for the bloggers! All of our nail art designs will be pinned to a pin board over on piCture pOlish’s Pinterest board. You can go there and vote on your favorite design (I would love your vote on mine, but there are some AMAZING nails on that board!). One winner will be chosen by piCture pOlish friends and fans (that’s YOU!). One winner will be chosen by the participants of Blog Fest. And one winner will be chosen by piCture pOlish.
And the three winners will get to create a collaboration shade with piCture pOlish to be launched in 2014!! How cool is that?
