Zoya Lidia

Press sample provided for review.
Here is Zoya Lidia from the fall Focus collection (Press Release here).

She is just lovely! It looked great with my skin tone. The only thing I don’t like about the polish wasn’t even a problem with the polish…it was the brush. I just couldn’t get the brush in the right position to properly flare out on the nail. Pretty minor.

I’m looking forward to trying out Sia, the royal blue cream. Are any of the creams or metallics from these collections calling your name?

Zoya Fall Collections press release

Two exciting new Zoya Nail Polish collections arrive for FALL 2015

FOCUS (creams)

The Zoya Focus Collection features six strong, solid shades that anchor a look for fall as stand-alone shades. The densely pigmented cream formula features a unique, micro-grind pigment that allows for extra-smooth, streak-free application.

· Charli (ZP807) – a dusty taupe cream with a hint of green, a perfect neutral.

· Desiree (ZP806) – a classic sable brown cream that has just enough gray to keep it cool in tone.

· Hannah (ZP805) – a clear, classic red cream with a balanced (neutral) undertone.

· Janel (ZP804) – a deep red cream with a rich warm undertone.

· Lidia (ZP803) – a rich eggplant cream with a blackened purple base and just a hint of red resulting in a color that is wearable for most skin tones.

· Sia (ZP802) – a true, royal blue cream. NOTE: This is a highly pigmented shade – make sure to apply a base coat to prevent staining.
FLAIR (metallics)

Six, jewel toned liquid metal shades. The unique, micro-grind metallic pigment of the Zoya Flair Collection is fully blended into a vibrant base, creating the effect of brilliant colored melted metal!

· Tris (ZP813) – a blackened, brushed nickel liquid metal.

· Cinnamon (ZP812) – a classic bronze liquid metal, originally designed for Zang Toi NYFW F/W15.

· Aggie (ZP811) – a gold holo-flip, liquid metal with bronze micro glitter. Sheer enough for layering with one coat or fully opaque in three coats!

· Ember (ZP810) – a deep, fiery red liquid metal with enough blue to be wearable for all skin tones.

· Giada (ZP809) – a purple liquid metal with a hint of fuchsia pearl.

· Estelle (ZP808) – a blue on blue liquid metal with a blackened base.

$9 (US), Available in top salons, spas and on
* **BIG5FREE, TOXIN FREE: Zoya Nail Polish Formula contains no formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate, toluene or camphor.

The Flair collection looks amazing with the metal finish! And the richness of the creams! I think these will be two more stunning collections!

Jamberry Tips and Tricks

I love polish (as you well know), but I also love Jamberry Nail Wraps! I can do some nail art like polka dots, stripes using tape, watermarble, etc, but I’d never be able to paint comic strips on my nails.

Take a look at these…

Awesome, right? Unfortunately this wrap, PopStar, is retired, but it was really popular so maybe something similar will come along.

At any rate, I put these on Thursday night in order to wear them to church camp over the weekend where our theme was Super Heroes. I thought this was an excellent opportunity to pull out this special wrap. And I wanted to be sure they stayed on. Really well. Because I didn’t need to take a whole lot of supplies to church camp to fix a nail. Because, really? I did have a nail file. I didn’t go totally backwoods.

So I did a few things differently for the application of these. First, I used a “sticky” base coat – Glisten & Glow Stuck on Blu. I had read from other consultants that the Jamberry base coat helped their wraps staying power. I don’t have the Jamberry base coat, but I have plenty of others! My next change up was using the “baseball method” when applying the wrap. You can google plenty of videos of how to do this, but here’s the scoop:

Cut a very skinny notch on either side of the wrap toward the cuticle end, like this (but much skinnier)…

I have domed nails which means they aren’t completely flat from cuticle to tip. They curve there as well as the regular curve from side to side. Because of that, I was always getting bubbles or puckers on the side of some nails. Or I would get puckers along the free edge of the wrap. Both issues cause the wrap to not stay on very well and looking nice. So, using this notch method, you put the wrap on after cutting the notch and press it from the middle bottom (cuticle) up toward the middle free end. Then you press from the middle bottom out to the side, making sure the bottom flap is secured. Then you press from the middle top edge down toward the side notch. The notch helps the wrap to lay flat all around. Here’s an up close pic…
See the little notches at the arrows? There are notches on the other sides, too. And don’t mind the wear on the free edge of these wraps. This is my right hand and as much as I try to avoid using my nails as tools, sometimes I do…like untying knotted shoe laces after a camper’s trip to the pool. Oh, well.

I’m happy to say that there are no puckers on my wraps! Yay!

The last thing I did differently was to use a glass file to file off the extra wrap instead of the Jamberry file (in the first picture). A glass file is a really fine grit. The Jamberry file is a really course grit. When you use a course grit file, it shreds the end of the wrap and makes it much easier for it to start lifting. With the glass file, it’s much smoother and stays down better. I can already tell I’m going to get a much longer wear time out of these wraps because they’re flush on my nail and smooth on the edge.

If you’re interested in Jamberry wraps, you can visit my consultant’s site and check them out! What’s your favorite wrap?

More Disney Nails!

I had the pleasure of painting Disney nails for two girls today. They’re going to Disney soon and the mom thought that themed nails would be fun! She was right…I’m just glad they didn’t want a portrait of Cinderella in a full-length ball gown!

I did the 5th grader’s nails first. She had beautiful nails! I painted polka dots on her pinky using white acrylic paint and my dotting tool. The middle finger is Mickey ears, again using the acrylic paint and dotting tool. For the index and ring fingers, I painted on a silver, then a coat of silver holo sparkles and then use a Mickey ears decal I made with my Silhouette Cameo to cover up the silver and painted the red or black on top, then peeled off the decal. I messed up the first time and the decal peeled the silver paint right off. It was a pretty good “negative space” look, but not what we were going for. Her thumb has the cute Mickey pants!

Polish Used: Glisten & Glow Stuck on Blu base coat, Zoya Sooki (red), Zoya Trixie (silver), F.U.N Lacquer silver holo glitter, Fantasy Makers black, white acrylic paint, Glisten & Glow HK Girl quick dry top coat

I did to 4 year old’s next. She wanted Minnie (the polka dots) and a Mickey head and we decided on Mickey pants for her thumb. She stayed very still while I painted her tiny nails. And when I put the buttons on the Mickey pants on her thumb, she squealed! It was too cute! I used all the same supplies as on her sister.

A quick text to their mom last night told me that their manis were still holding up! Hope they last long enough to show Mickey and Minnie!

Orly LA Selfie

Get out your sunglasses, folks. This is a bright one!

I noticed some bright Orly polish at Target the other day so when I went back, I actually got a closer look. I was hoping it was the summer 2015 collection but it was actually their new Color Amp’d line, exclusive to Target.

Here’s a graphic about the system straight from their website:

I picked up the boxed set that had a polish and the Sealcoat. The polish included was LA Selfie. I applied the polish just as the instructions stated: two coats of polish (no base coat) and one coat of the Sealcoat. This picture is in direct sunlight.

And this one is in the shade.

You can see the polish is a little different color from the bottle. This is my only complaint. The bottle is wrapped in colored plastic so you can’t actually see the color (or the amount in the bottle).  The Sealcoat dried really quickly, which I liked. I didn’t test out the “smudge proof” claim but I’m sure I’ll have a chance again. This neon pink is awesome! As for the “long wearing” claim, I can’t speak to that yet either. I just put it on yesterday and it looks great. I think this would also make a great pedi shade.

Do you like neon polishes? What’s your favorite brand/shade of neon? I dot have nearly enough in my stash!

Half Moon Dottie Mani

I’ve had this mani in my drafts for a month. And by now, I’m not sure what polishes I used, but they were all Juleps. I masked off the half moons with dot stickers and I did the dots with a dotting tool.

Midnight Kiss

I purchased the February Adeicted to Holos box and this was one of the beautiful polishes in the box. It was created for the box by The Polish Bar and it’s just lovely! Yes, it has a scattered holo, but it also shifts from blue to teal and some green. It is definitely a stunner!

Unfortunately there wasn’t much sun out when I took these pictures. So I had to go with flash pictures. You can see the awesome holo in here.

So glimmery!

You can keep up with Addicted to Holo on Facebook. They have a new box every three months, so the next one will be in June. There’s already a review up of all the polishes included. Do any look like something you would like?

Happy Summer!

You wouldn’t know it was summer by looking at the weather here. The high was 69° today and I think less than that yesterday.

But the kids are almost out of school so that’s a big clue that it’s summertime.

And this polish screams summer!

Meet Zoya Charisma…

Zoya describes this as

“an ultra bright neon fluorescent magenta/red-toned purple cream. This neon shade dries matte, but also can be worn with topcoat for a glossy finish.”

It is more purple than it looks in this picture but it’s not a deep as the bottle shown on the Zoya site.

It’s a little persnickety in that its thin and tends to be streaky but I think I’ve found the solution…and I like it a lot better than a base of white: two coats of ridge filler as the base! As the description states, it dries matte since it’s a neon. But a shiny top coat brings out the shine!

I love this one so much I actually have a backup!

Zoya Island Fun Nail Art

Press Samples

I received the Zoya Island Fun and Paradise Sun collections in the mail yesterday. They are such beautiful colors! The Island Fun collection are all cremes and the Paradise Sun collection are all micronized pearl finishes. They can be purchased from

Here’s the nail are I tried out. It looks complicated but it’s really just dots made with my dotting tool.

I used Demetria, Talia and Jace. The idea for the medallion came from the art journaling class I’ve been taking. During that I’ve discovered the art of Zentangles. I’ve been having a really good time with the journal as well as with doodling.

Go check out the other colors in these two collections. They’re so yummy and summery!
